I've been searching some sites looking for more specific specs on the ds. In particular the max polygons/ps.

Ask about that kind of stuff on the gbadev.org forums.

You want dead? Try the www.dragon-warrior.com message boards. Those boards are so dead, it's ridiculous.

Brasington Lane Software Planning's message board is even deader.
"I've been playing a lot of Final Fantasy Tactics lately, trying to master all the jobs for my human characters, and it's even been showing up in my dreams. Last night I had a dream I was watching one of those stand-up shows on TV, and a comedian was doing a bit about, you guessed it, the battle on the roof of Riovanes Castle..." -Indo Tenbuki

How can you call the DS something new when it's just a smaller N64? They're porting all the games and gave it the same capabilities. I think a smaller PS2 is better than a smaller N64. Plus, the PSP can play other media from movies to mp3's etcetera.

1. The DS can play mp3 and movies too
2. Did the n64 had two screens and a touch pad? I don't think so!

Rather than put more peripheral-topic clutter in what is rightly a GBA forum, I've decided to resurrect this dead thread.
I played the DS and the PSP for the first time yesterday, and I have to say I'm unimpressed. both systems are overhyped.
For all the talk about innovation on the DS, it's still got the same old game designs, only now they're harder to control. Outside of tech demo gimmick games like Wario Ware and Feel the Magic, the touch screen is used for two things; slightly faster menu navigation and a poor replacement for an analogue stick.
And the PSP is supposed to be a superpowered beast with a screen so big and bright you'll want to replace your tv with it, but the DS soundly beats it in screen area and refresh rate. Watching a movie on the PSP will drive you to distraction by its ghosting effects. It's like trying to watch a video file on an old laptop.
On its own merits, I would probably prefer the PSP but for the bundle package it comes with. The movie I could accept. It's a good movie. Even the memory stick, despite being obsolete right out of the package, is still useful. The Gretzky Bundle is Sony saying "Hey, syrup-drinking lumberjacks! You people miss your ice hockey, right? I hope so, because this game is mandatory! That's right, we won't allow you to buy our product unless you also buy this game that's so bad, we wouldn't have been able to sell it otherwise! Hey, maybe if you're lucky, you'll find a Microplay willing to give you two bucks trade-in credit for it!" And the remote control is pure narcissism, given the reality of the PSP's size. If you're more than an arm's length away from the PSP, you won't be able to read the menu options anyway.

I haven't tried it out in depth, but I did play one round of Wipeout on my friends PSP. I didn't notice anything bad about the video quality. I personally would prefer the PSP not only because of the bundle, but because it is an mp3 player as well as a movie player.

So, I found a used DS for a hundred dollars. It has a fractured touchscreen right along the left border. I tested it and it works fine, even the few millimetres to the left of the crack are fully responsive.
I didn't get it then, but I think I should go back and make a lower offer, saying it's simply for parts.
Whatabouts would you say is a good deal on a battle-damaged DS?

If it works fine, it should be okay. Try if you can get it cheaper, that's always good.
