Resizing the DW1 Overworld?

Greetings,

          I was curious as to whether anyone knows of a successful size-alteration of Dragon Warrior 1's overworld map? Specifically, I'd like to change the current 120x120 grid to a 165x90 arrangement. (Yes, I also plan on rewriting the terrain accordingly.)
