Freezing Issue w/ EverDrive GBA Mini and GBI

When using Goomba Color on my EverDrive GBA Mini and Game Boy Interface on my GameCube, if I leave the game idle for too long, the game freezes.  I have auto-sleep turned off, but it appears it may still be trying to go into sleep mode.  When it freezes, I'm unable to get it to unfreeze, even pressing Start+Select doesn't do anything.

Any ideas?

I might need to force the DMA effects off when entering sleep mode.
