Recently I realized the lack of good TI games. The best game on my calculator is Bubble Bobble, followed by Harvest Moon. So I decided maybe we should make a list of good TI games followed by a link to where you can download them. Each one in this list has either been tested by me and verified that it is a game that you will actually want to play. I'll start. ** Please post calculator version so that people don't waste time.

The best I have is Tetris, but I don't have any wire to connect to the computer, so I've just been living off of what my friends have.

Dammit, my calculator just froze and I lost all my games when I took out the batteries to turn it off. Is there a way to unfreeze it without taking out the batteries?
Offline
Very doubtful, I'd suggest just to archive all your stuff and just use a FLASH os so you never have to worry about crashing.

MirageOS has some function that let's you stop the program safely. Try the options menu, there is a function 'interrupt' or something. If you do on+clear the program should stop. It doesn't always work though.

I wasn't in a game when it froze, and I do archive all of my games, but some of them somehow Unarchive themselves. Has this ever happened to you?
Offline
if you run an archive program, it gets unarchived. The 83+ can't run archived program's that are not apps.
Offline
I run them on MirageOS
Offline
MirageOS unarchives them too, for writeback. It then archives it again.
Offline
never rearchived for me. hmm. Also, what does it mean when it asks you to "collect garbage?"

Heh, I feel like I'm living in the stone age - my current TI calculator is an eight year old TI-85 (ROM version 10.0), still working as well as the day I got it.

Well, that requires some understanding of how the flash memory works. Ram memory works very simple: you can change any bit that you want. Flash memory works a bit different. You can change any 0 to a 1, but to change it back to 0, you need to erase an entire sector. When you unarchive something, the OS copies the program from the archive to the ram, and sets a bit in the archived program that indicates that it's deleted. When you archive it again, the data from RAM gets copied to an empty space of archive, and the program gets deleted in the RAM. When you do that a few times, the whole archive is full with deleted programs which still have data there. Garbage collecting moves all the un-deleted programs in a section to a temporary section of the archive, then clears the section, and copies the programs back. Then it does that for all the other sections.

ah, its all so clear now

I'm not really that good at explaining it, but that is essentially what garbage collecting does.
Other useless info about garbage collecting:
-You can't garbage collect if your batteries are low
-the flash memory can 'only' garbage collect about 1000 times.
Offline
and then what? It explodes?
Offline
your calc'll probably say ERROR:Memory whenever you try to archive something. I don't know really, no-one has reached that state yet. It'll probably take about 10 years of extreme use (25 years of normal use according to TI). The 83+ only exist 7 years...

Flash memory has a limited number of erase/write cycles - garbage collect too many times and it will wear out and become unreliable and/or nonfunctional.

Does 45 minute math classes 5 days a week count as "normal usage"
Offline
depends on how much you garbage collect. If you do that every ten minutes (like i did when my memory was almost full) it's extreme usage, but once every day should be okay. The time it takes before a new garbage collect comes depends on your free memory too, so you should always have about 40K empty memory, or you'll see a garbage collect every 10 minutes.
Offline
So then it's not really a big deal if you garbage collect often, because what I've gathered tells me by the time your calc cant archive anymore you should dump it an get a new one anyways.
