Pokemon (To free the Love Hina Thread)

Discuss the game or movie or show here.

Games were good until gold and silver.  Anime was good until it varied greatly from the game.  Movies were awful.

Re: Pokemon (To free the Love Hina Thread)

maybe someone can move the pokemon posts here.

How many Pokemon movies did they make? 5? 6?

And the newer pokemon games weren't that bad, they were just not as good as the first ones.

the new attacks were awesome... I just hope they make just one FINAL game [GC] with all the worlds and all the pokémon and let that be it.

I'd almost guess Pokemon was some kind of new Mario for nintendo to stick in all sorts of games... Pokemon Kart?

Re: Pokemon (To free the Love Hina Thread)

Was Pokemon Colosseum for the GC any good? It continued the Pokemon Stadium 64 games' tradition of straight Pokemon battles in a 3D atmosphere, plus it catered to an older audience if I remember correctly.

Re: Pokemon (To free the Love Hina Thread)

I think that Mario lived longer, and will continue to live longer, because it wasn't thrown out across all mediums as much.  Sure, there was the tv show and the cartoon tv show, but they didn't last long enough to the point where we hated the character.  This is what I feel has happened to Pokemon.  The fact that they took a great game, made a franchise out of it, and then restructured the game to what the franchise was is what annoys me the most.  At least they reinvented mario every time around.  Pokemon is the same thing over and over and over, even in the TV show.  I honestly think they stopped putting any creativity in the franchise when they eliminated brock, brought in someone else, and moved the TV show to the Orange Islands.  That's when I lost interest anyway.  The card game was pretty fun, but once again, they structured a game around the franchise.  But I was never really good at the game so I can't say much about it.

This is all I can think of writing at this moment.  I may yell more at a later time.

Re: Pokemon (To free the Love Hina Thread)

The thing about anime based on video games is that if they directly followed the games themselves, they wouldn't be watchable. Can you imagine if the Super Mario Bros. Supershow was about Mario and Luigi eating mushrooms, growing to double their size, and breaking bricks with their heads? It'd be worse than Boohbah.

Re: Pokemon (To free the Love Hina Thread)

you can't really compare a pokemon show to a mario show, pkmn is an RPG, mario is a platformer. RPG's (and adventures too) usually have more of a story than platformers. Just look at the Wind Waker: you could easily make a cartoon out of that, it's pretty much a cartoon already.

Re: Pokemon (To free the Love Hina Thread)

Nintendo should come up with a really cool RPG which requires a LOT from the player. Tactics, planning, a lot of items, customization, timing, good graphics [not too good or it'll take too much from the 'oll cube] anything else?

I think that would be pretty cool actually.  I also suggest you look at this flash movie for an example of how cool it is.

Re: Pokemon (To free the Love Hina Thread)

Nintendo should team up with Square Enix again for another Mario RPG, or perhaps an RPG starring another Nintendo fixture such as Kirby. IMO, the best Mario RPG was the very first one, and much of that is because the big N had Square on their side.

Re: Pokemon (To free the Love Hina Thread)

That episode of South Park is the best, IMO. My favorite Chinpokomon is Shoe.

Did you know "chinpoko" is Japanese for penis? And one of the Chinpokomon is called Chuchunezumi, which means "squeak squeak mouse."

Re: Pokemon (To free the Love Hina Thread)

I actually made this thread.

To PaperhatsYAY: There is a very good episode of the cartoon that explains this.  He apparently liked this girl meowth but she had an owner and he was on the street.  So he tried to impress her by learning english from an english class that he listened in on from the roof.  After learning and going back to her, she didn't like him because she said he was a freak for knowing english.
